The regulars

Originally, we thought we would post many more biographies, but the task quickly overwhelmed us. We therefore include a representative selection of the wide variety of turtles that comprise the Honokowai ohana.

If we see a turtle most summers, we call it a "regular." Some skip a summer because of the nesting migration.

Tutu [1990 Turtle 5]
Raphael [1992 Turtle 26a]
Nui [1990 Turtle 7]
McTaggert [1992 Turtle 35]
Tiamat a/k/a 4B [1992 Turtle 9]

Kamaha'o a/k/a Ghost [1993 Turtle 34]
Ho'oulu a/k/a Gotcha [1991 Turtle 17]
Akebono [1999 Turtle 42]

The absentees

If we don't see a "regular" for two summers in a row, but the turtle was in reasonably good health when last sighted, we call it an "absentee." We believe the animal has simply moved elsewhere, or just isn't around when we are.

Zaphod [1993 Turtle 4C]
Kaula [1989 Turtle 4]
Aikane [1990 Turtle 13]
Goofyfoot [1992 Turtle 7]

Tamu [1995 Turtle 26]

The lost ones

A "lost one" is a turtle who was a regular, but whose health was so bad at the last sighting that we think the animal is dead.

Noke, a/k/a Lefty [1990 Turtle 8]
